Table of Contents:

Roy Walton: Autograph Hunter: Roy causes a spectator's signature to jump from one card to anther. You'll love this!

Gordon Bruce: The Hands of a Surgeon: Gordon compels an unwitting spectator to cut to the four Aces. It's not often Gordon publishes material, so this is a real treat.

Gavin Ross: The ESP Shuffle: In this first routine, Gavin creates an incredible coincidence with an ESP deck despite the cards being mixed by a spectator. Hot Flush: In this 2nd routine, a randomly cut deck results in a Royal Flush in Spades!

Jim Boyd: Justice is Mine: Jim explains how he deals from the Bottom - then he fools you!

Peter McLanachan: Hofzinser 2001: Peter revisits the Hofzinser Ace Problem and dispenses with the deck, using only four Queens and a freely selected card.

Euan Bingham: A Hobbit's Tale: In this 1st routine, Euan vanishes the black Aces. When he tries to produce them again he finds the black Queens instead! This is no problem because the Queens suddenly change into the missing Aces. The black Queens are now found reversed in the middle of the deck. Phantom Aces: In this one, Euan causes Four aces to magically pass from inside a wallet to a deck of cards; he then makes the Aces travel from the deck back into the wallet.

Gary Middleton: Diamond Snatch: Gary makes the four Kings magically rise to the top of the pack, one by one, in search of a Diamond haul - the last King finds it! King for a Day: Gary loves the Hofzinser Ace problem; especially when the rest of the cards change to the mates of the selection. And this is precisely what happens here!

George McBride: Captives of the Cranium: We have 3 great routines from George! The 1st effect is an impossible card discovery where one spectator helps find another spectator's card. Stebbins Prediction: A terrific prediction effect where you will also admire the ingenius methodology! Veeser Meets Steranko: A spectator cuts the deck and finds the four Aces. Just like that!

Steve Hamilton: Thanks to Collins: A professional mind-bender from the late Steve Hamilton. Clever stuff.

Scotty Johnston: Big bank Hunt: A sandwich trick that fooled the a**e off me!

Richard James: Stranger: Richard uses two Kings to cause the back of a freely selected card to change colour, then it changes back to normal again. You'll love the simple direct method here.

Iain Girdwood: Total Recall: Iain memorises the colour order of a deck of cards after it has been shuffled by a spectator. 100% every time. Combining a system with a principle, you really do memorise the cards!

Val Le-Val: New Wave Oil & Water: Val's lovely Oil & Water routine using cards with O & W printed on them. So easy, yet so effective.

David Walsh: Walkaround: David tips his full walk-around card routine - a lot happens! Ambitious Card / Repeat Card to Pocket / Deck to Pocket / Card in Wallet. A 4 minute entertainment.

David Forrest: Eight of Two Kings: David presents a showy production of Four Kings and the Four Aces appear as a stunning kicker! Skinned: A selected card appears folded inside a packet of cigarette papers....in a flash!

Peter Duffie: Finishing Touch: Peter allows a spectator to choose any four cards at random - then he changes them visibly into four-of-a-kind as they are dealt to the table - or onto a spectator's hand! 52 Minus 1: A demonstration of psychic powers where only the audience touch the deck.

R. Paul Wilson: Thinking Cap: Paul lets a spectator just think of a card, then he finds it - no set-ups, and no difficult sleights! ConCam Cards: Paul's rendition of the classic Cards Across. Three cards travel from one packet to another, despite both packets being enclosed inside envelopes. No Palming! But if you like Palming, Paul offers a method with that, too.

Dave Robertson: L.K.D. Monte: Dave places a Queen between the two red Aces. So, the Queen is in the middle' No it's not. An easy and deceptive move that will enhance any 3-Card Monte routine.

18 contributors offering 26 Routines!

110 Photos!

20 of these tricks have never been in print before!

And, the ones that have may still be new to you!

Table of Contents:
Roy Walton: Guardian Ghost: A dead Pharaoh summons a frightening object to deter tomb raiders from robbing his tomb. In this case it is a ghost; the ghost of the Pharaoh himself!

George McBride: Streamlined Who Knows the Card: A card mentally chosen by one spectator is found by another spectator. Clever stuff! Mirakill: Predict the colours of cards that have been freely mixed by a spectator.

Jim Cuthbert: Have a Drink on Me: A multiple prediction of hotels and drinks freely chosen by members of your audience. Book Test: Jim's rendition of this classic effect. Dead easy!

David Forrest: Mating Season: A spectator freely chooses a card from a thoroughly shuffled deck. The mentalist divines the identity of the selection. The mentalist then reveals that he had predicted which card would be chosen by removing the mate of the selection from his wallet. Invisible Opener: The spectator names any card. The mentalist proves that he has predicted ahead of time which card would be named. Shades of the Invisible Deck...

Jackie McClements: Dicychometry: Four spectators + four coloured dice = a knockout prediction! Killer Finish!: Simply that - a Killer Finish that can be used for the above, or at another time.

Peter McLanachan: AL Together Now: Peter's impromptu version of the Card at Any Number. A spectator names a card, a second gives a number between one and fifty-two and a third spectator takes the cards and deals down to that number in the deck where the named card is found. Snap!: An inexplicable matching effect. A card is placed face down on the table as a prediction. The deck is spread in front of the spectator who is then invited to move one card out of the spread. This card is placed on top of the prediction. The two cards are found to match.

Alan Innes: Draw Your Own Conclusions: Excellent demonstration of Drawing Duplication using 26 cards each bearing a different design. Devil Lived 1 & II: A tarot card chosen form the Major Arcana spookily appears on a piece of parchment previously shown to be void of any writing. Wedding Present: Six cards are shown each with a month and number on each side giving a choice of all twelve months, Jan 1/ Feb 2, Mar 3 / Apr 4, etc. A list of 50 different wedding presents is shown along with a small box. Spec is asked what month they would like to get married and that month is placed aside. The spectator then mixes up the remaining cards turning some of them over to get a random total, say 48. The number is checked against the list of presents to give a gold coin. Inside the box that has been in full view is a gold coin!

Scotty Johnston: The Shoe She Connection: The spectator removes a card from a shuffled pack. The selected card is placed face down to one side. The spectator then randomly deals three piles of cards. When he has finished doing this he chooses any pile he wishes. The top card of the chosen pile is turned face up and is shown to be a King. The original chosen card is turned face up and is shown also to be a King. The two cards on top of the other two piles on the table are then also turned face up they are also Kings. The performer offers to try the trick once more. The Kings are placed to one side and a new card is selected just as before. The spectator cuts the deck into three different piles and again chooses any pile. This time when the cards are turned face up they do not match. The performer then picks up the Kings placed aside earlier and performs a magical gesture. The Kings change to the three mates of the chosen selection.

Ian Kendall: Spice Rack: Ian's system of progressive anagrams to determine a freely thought of kitchen Spice. Perfect for remote performances, such as radio or telephone.

Euan Bingham: Reversed Card to Named Number: A selected card appear at a freely named number...and it's reversed! Mine's a Half: Euan's handling for the Half-Pass.

David Lees: One from Three: You divine a thought of photograph - the photographs can be taken from a spectator's family album. Includes same routine with cards. The Collector of Souls: A bizarre close-up effect complete with captivating script.

    Contains:

  • Erma la Fource - This method for the classic 'Oscar' trick fools magicians and laymen alike. The magician makes a prediction: The Name of Your Card is Erma! The spectator names any card. He deals through the deck himself. Each card bears a different name on the back. There is only one 'Erma' card. It is the card he named.
  • Tamariz Rabbits - Michael Close's routine for Juan Tamariz' very commercial packet trick. Michael has eliminated the need to switch cards in your pocket, and has still retained the maximum number of changes. This is a wonderful trick for children. The Unreality Machine - Here is another strange Origami effect, involving an offbeat transposition between an origami snowball and a pack of matches. The climax looks like 'morphing.'
  • Close's Clones - A restaurant routine that provides enormous laughs with minimum work. This is a topical, funny, and very commercial routine.
  • Down for the Count - Here's another funny routine that is simple to do. The magician proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that someone at the table is a vampire.
  • The Card, the Forehead, and the Saltshaker - One of Michael Close's favorite routines, and a masterpiece of audience management, this is the first time that all the work has been explained on video. Audiences around the world have raved over this routine; now is your chance to learn all the details from Michael Close.
  • Too Ahead - This three-phase coin routine is a fine example of diabolical routining. Done standing, it is perfect for table hopping. The subtle handling involved has fooled some of the best magicians in the world, and can be applied to other effects.
  • Four-Card Reiteration - Dan Garrett's marvelous routine provides a lesson in expert card handling. Included is a discussion on palming, and Michael's utility move, The Last Card Push.
  • The Lie Detector - The most commercial version

The Card Activist by Peter Duffie (eBook)

The Card Activist by Peter Duffie (eBook)

    CONTENTS:

    Auto Hue
Two spectators each select a card from a packet. The selection procedure happens in the hands of the spectators, you have no influence over the procedure. First, the cards separate into reds and blacks. Then the selections magically appear among the cards of opposite colour. All this happens without the performer touching the cards.

    Not Wrong:
You offer to demonstrate your ability to cut to certain cards with great accuracy. You give the deck a couple of cuts, and reveal the Ace of Hearts face up on top of a face down quarter of the deck. This is repeated and you produce the Two of Hearts. And then again, to reveal the Three of Hearts face up on top of the third pile. So far, so good. Finally you cut the remainder of the deck, however, instead of the Four of Hearts, you produce the Ace of Spades. You appear to have failed at the final hurdle. To remedy this mistake, you now flip over the first three piles revealing the Two, Three and Four of Spades.

    Stretch & Catch:
A spectator freely selects a card and this is lost back into the deck. You show the Joker and insert it into the outer end of the deck, leaving it outjogged slightly. You state that the Joker is a shape-shifter and will find the chosen card. First, you pull on the Joker and it visibly stretches to twice its length. Then you say that it will now split/sever itself in half - at that, the Joker reverts to normal size. When you spread the deck the two Jokers are seen face up in the middle with one face down card between them. This proves to be the selection.

    Ace Cutter
A few simple cuts produce the four Aces.

    Flash Triumph
You cut a deck in two halves - turn one half over, and then Riffle Shuffle the halves together. A spectator cuts the deck, looks at the card he cut to, and leaves his card in the middle. Without any further cuts or adjustments, you pick up the deck and instantly cause all the cards to appear face up. A wide fan reveals that only one card remains face down. This is the selection.

    Careless Whispers
A spectator removes any four of a kind and gives these four cards to you. They might be the Kings. Now, with the deck still in his grasp, he selects any card, ensuring that you never see its face. You hold the Kings and invite the spectator to slide his card among them. Instantly, his card becomes invisible. You hold the invisible card up and correctly name it. You offer to perform another trick using the Kings. You ask the spectator to take the main deck and cut it into two halves - one for you and one for him. You now show the red Kings and place them on top of his half, then you show the black Kings and drop them on top of your half. Immediate, you turn over your top two cards revealing that you now have his two red Kings. 'If I have the red Kings ... what do you have'' you ask. 'The black Kings of course,' he might say. But no, on top of his half he now finds his selection, perfectly visible again!

    Scopic
You remove the Joker from the deck, then a spectator selects a card and it is lost back into the deck. You say you will demonstrate the powers of the Joker. You remove three easily remembered cards, such as the Ace, Two and Three of Clubs. You add the Joker to the packet and it changes into each of the three cards, one by one. Finally, the selection is named, and the Joker reveals the card in a completely unexpected manner.

    Task Force
An easy way to force a card as you spread the deck from hand to hand.

    Task Force Finders
Two cards are selected; one face up (seen) and the other face down (unseen). Taking the 'seen' card, you spell its name. It might be the 2C, so you would spell: T-W-O O-F CL-U-B-S, forming a separate pile for each word. You turn over the top card of each pile to reveal three Jacks. When you turn over the face down card (unseen) it proves to the fourth Jack.

    Auto Sandwich
You remove the two black Jacks and then a spectator selects any card and signs his name across its face. The signed card is cleanly placed reversed between the two Jacks. The spectator can do this if you wish. After showing/emphasizing the position of the cards, you place the three-card sandwich on the spectator's outstretched palm. You ask the spectator if they felt anything happen' Regardless of what they say, you ask then to spread the cards and turn over the middle card. Instead of their selection, they find a card with a message written on it. You ask the spectator to read it aloud: 'MY CARD IS IN YOUR POCKET.' 'Really'' you utter. Then with a look of puzzlement you reach into your pocket and bring out the signed card.

Basement Jaxx The Four Jacks are placed at the bottom of the deck. Three cards are selected and these are placed face up on top of the deck. The three selections instantly vanish and are found interlaced between the four Jacks at the bottom of the deck.

    Phantom Stab II
An invisible card (phantom card) is tossed into the deck and finishes between two previously selected cards. And, the performer hardly touches the deck throughout.

    Double Agents
The four Kings are used to identify and capture images of two selected cards. Finally, you say, 'Now that I know what your cards look like, I think I should be able to find them myself ...' And this you do by making one selection instantly appear face up on top of the deck, while the other selection is produced from your pocket.

    CONTENTS

    Return to Ipcress:
A handling variation for Jerry Sadowitz's Ipcress.

    Fragmented Thoughts:
You place a sealed envelope on the table or give it to someone for safe-keeping. This envelope contains your prediction. You now bring out four pieces of playing cards: one full-size card, one three-quarter card, one half card and one quarter card. These are placed in a row on the table and mixed. A spectator now picks one of the four pieces. Let's say he chooses the three-quarter card. The envelope is opened, and the missing quarter is tipped out. Everything can be examined.

    Charcol B:
You show the top card of the deck and insert it into the middle, but you leave it out jogged for half of its length. From here, the card is controlled to the top of the deck with ease!

    Delivery Date:
A new diary prediction with an unexpected and humorous twist at the end.
    Folder:
An easy way of folding a card under fire during an Overhand Shuffle.

    Jaks' Blaks:
Mind-reading and Spirit-writing with four black pieces of card.

    Lie Witness 2:
A new handling for Lie Witness that first appears in MAGIC magazine and later in my ebook Obscurities.

    Witness in Your Pocket:
Two spectators each select a card. They can sign their cards if your budget permits! You remove the two, black Jacks, place the first selection (A) reversed between them, and then cut the sandwich into the middle of the deck. The other selection (B) is placed on the bottom of the deck. You raise the deck to show that the card is really there. After a riffle, you show the bottom of the deck. The card that was there has now gone. The deck is spread and the Jack sandwich thumbed onto spectator B's hand. He turns over the face down card between the Jacks to find that, instead of card A, it is now card B, his card. Finally, you reach into your pocket and remove card A.

    Book Test 1:
A two-person book test based on ideas of the late T.A. Waters.

    Book Test 2:
    Further book test adventures.

    Dinner for Two:
A different handling for Roy Walton's Cannibal Cards.

    Three - Way Out:
A simple three-way prediction, or three-way out. It allows you to show your prediction as three different playing cards. I have included a simple effect after this that uses this utility prediction.

    Three - Way Trick:
A simple trick that uses the 'Three-Way Out' prediction.

    Pivotal Aces:
A quick and visual production of four Aces.
    Zodiak:
A previously marketed prediction of a randomly chosen astrological sign. You give a spectator a prediction for safekeeping along with a folded card - not unlike a club syllabus card. You bring out a deck of cards and start to deal (or a spectator can deal) - anyone can stop you at anytime. The card stopped at might be the Seven of Clubs. The first spectator opens the folded card. Inside, all 52 cards are randomly assigned a zodiac sign - against the 7C might be ARIES. The spectator reveals your prediction, which says ARIES! Finally, as an afterthought, the spectator takes the deck and spells ARIES to find his card!

    'A' but no 'E':
How to make a mountain out of a molehill ...

    Flat-Pack:
A spectator's signed card appears as the inner surface of a cardboard rolled up magic wand!

    Flat-Pack by Cameron Francis:
Same effect simplified and without a major sleight.

I Know Three Things for Sure by Harvey Rosenthal:
A compelling and entertaining card effect where the performer makes three statements; all of which are true. However, the third one takes the audience completely by surprise.

    Peter's Steinway by Harvey Rosenthal:
Harvey's new handling for 'Duffie on Keyboards.' No piano skills necessary!
