    Villain by Kevin Parker

    Wizard HQ Product Search

    Villain by Kevin Parker

    Villain by Kevin Parker

    get it here
With Villain, Kevin Parker has created an impromptu ring flight that uses no reels, devices, long sleeves or clothing requirements, weird angles, pulls, or any hook-up that carries the ring to your keyring; it uses no gimmicks whatsoever and is a ring-flight you can do anywhere you go without having to bring anything special with you. The Villain vanish is a miracle in itself in that not only are you not standing at weird angles or holding the ring close to you, but it completely disappears in a loose casual manner away from your body, without going up any sleeves, and leaves both hands completely empty. Then, without any additional moves, the magician simply pulls his keys out of his pocket and there's the ring visibly and clearly hanging from his keyring. That is THEIR ring, not a second ring preloaded on the keyring. You remove the ring and give it back, along with the keys, and there's absolutely not! hing to find.

Villain can even be performed with a spectator's keys and such a version is taught on the Villain DVD. Kevin Parker designed Villain with cleanness and simplicity in mind for zero nervousness performances.

'I can't stress how much I love it already, I mean it's SO simple, yet clever and brilliant. I remember wanting to pick up the Departure (I believe it was called) Ring Flight which cost 50$, but didn't want to deal with the weird angles with the hook-up and etc. Luckily I didn't pick it up, because this one definitely beats any ring flight I've seen.

This one is tied with Sean Field's Northbound Ring Flight, my current ring flight, but this almost definitely beats it...'
    - Jordan V. - magician

'Kevin Parkers ring flight is one of the most visual and amazing handelings I have ever seen. An amazing effect.'
    - Jesse H. - magician

'I really like the simplicity of the effect, sometimes the greatest ideas are the simplest and that's what I really enjoy.'

I hate when that happens! The drawing on the business card is then turned face down onto the spectators hand. You tell them that the stick man can do the vanishing rabbit trick. Final Penetration by Mikame

    get it here
Final Penetration by Mikame is a phenomenal piece of classical block penetration magic. Nothing has changed much for the Block Penetration routine for years but Mikame's Final Penetration is a revival of a solid classic with a modern look and function. This classical piece of magic can now be reset, and the routine repeated without the hassle of setting it up again. This is the Final Penetration.

The magician invites a spectator to place the block into the wooden chamber. The spectator inserts the stick, stabbing the block into place, and flips the device over. The block does not fall. The spectator removes the stick, and the block falls from the chamber. The magician tries the same routine, but the block passes the stick and falls directly out of the chamber to the audience's amazement. Everything can be inspected before and after the trick. You are left with a clean presentation of a phenomenal classical magic trick.

    Final Penetration by Mikame measures approximately 3' x 7 1/4' x 3' (7.6cm x 18.4cm x 7.6cm)

Live From London Its Meir Yedid

    Wizard HQ Product Search

Live From London It's Meir Yedid

Live From London It's Meir Yedid

    get it here
Meir Yedid is the first person to ever win the Society of American Magicians' Close-Up Magic Championship more than once (1981 and 1988). His magic has been performed by all the leading magicians. Many of the routines on this DVD have been used by Meir and others on stage, close-up, and on television. This is your opportunity to see him in action and experience his wacky style, creativity, and humor. This is a live one-hour lecture given in London, England in 1988.

As a special bonus the DVD also includes Meir's Stand-Up Pop-Jump routine which was originally released as a separate video.

    Includes performances and explanations to:

Hal Meyer's Laser Splice: A selected card is found by cutting it in half with a toy laser gun. Tip Top Aces: An impromptu card routine where four aces placed in four different parts of the deck rise to the top.

W.O.W. Book Test II: A spe! ctator thinks of the first word on a freely selected page and you reveal it with 100% accuracy.

Cardinal Cards: A card's back and face are ripped off so it is blank on both sides. This new card, The Cardinal Card, is now used to turn six other cards into duplicates of itself.

Zig-Zag Thumb: An impromptu finger trick where the center of your thumb vanishes leaving the tip and the base in full view.

Card Marx: A twisting the aces type effect where the kicker ending has all the cards' backs change color and pictures of the Marx Brothers appear - proving that it was done with marked cards.

Point The Way: The deck is spread to show that an arrow points to the selected card, which is the only odd backed card in the deck.

Biting Sensations: A selected card is pulled out of the deck between your teeth as you bite a chunk out of the deck.

Index Finger Vanish: A detailed explanation on how to make your index finger disappear.

Stand-Up, Pop-Jump (originally released as a separate video): This is the quick, direct and visual routine that Meir uses to open all of his formal close-up shows. Four queens are magically produced. Each queen is then sandwiched between two face-down cards. One-at-a-time each queen vanishes from between its cards and magically and visually appears in the center of the table. Your hands are repeatedly shown empty throughout the routine. This routine is a reputation maker.

Techniques explained within routines: Hamman Count, Flushtration Count, Vernon Strip-Out, Slip Force, Riffle Force, Meir Mix, Four Card Production, False Kick Cut, Zarrow-Biddle Steal, Longitudinal Steal, Utility Swipe, Unit Grip, and more.

    Magic Magazine January 2010

    Magic Magazine January 2010

    get it here
Cover: David Roth (by Bill Wells)
With his work as an international performer, seminar leader, and consultant, plus steady gigs behind the counters of magic shops, David Roth has been acclaimed as the finest coin magician of his or perhaps any generation.

Al Koran's Headline Countdown (by Graham P. Jolley)
Mentalist Al Koran died in 1972, but his work lives on. One of his best-known - and perhaps least understood - effects was the Headline Countdown, fully explained here by his unofficial student.

    Donba Jutsu (by Steve Marshall)
"The technique of eating a horse." It's a magic effect not seen in 300 years, but Shintaro Fujiyama recently recreated it live onstage, along with other routines from the Edo period of Japan.

Ricky Jay - A Rouge's Gallery (by Gabe Fajuri)
In his latest theatrical effort, A Rogue's Galle! ry, magician, historian, and raconteur Ricky Jay displays his skills in all these areas. It's an evening of tales and tricks, partly determined by choices from the audience.

Making the Dreams of Children Come True (by Mark Nelson)
Although only sixteen, Kyle Eschen's dry wit and seemingly world-weary persona separate him from other teen magicians, as do his television performing credits.

The Trilero, Paleros and You (by Nicholas J. Johnson)
Trilero - it's the old game of finding the ball under the three covers. While the spectators can't separate the empty boxes from the one they want, the street hustlers can separate the bettors from their cash.

    Updates

    Shanghai International Magic Festival
The Sixth Shanghai International Magic Festival & Competition was held in China, November 5-8. With Juliana Chen serving as the artistic director, the cultural exchange program f! eatures a showcase for magic from around the world, as well as stage and close-up competitions. Performances were given for the public, and the 4,500-seat Shanghai International Gymnastic Center was sold out for the event.

    Reveen Honored
Almost 200 fans, friends, and family gathered on December 7 at The Orleans Hotel to pay tribute to Peter Reveen, as Fantasma IBM Ring 257 of Las Vegas named him Magician of the Year. Highlights were Johnathan's demonstration of hypnotism as "taught to him by Reveen," ending with a "volunteer" taking a bite out of a spinning fan; and a special appearance by Jeff Hobson with a spot-on impersonation of the guest of honor.

A Moment With ... David Ben
November 2009 marked the final issue of Magicol, the journal of the Magic Collectors' Association, produced under the stewardship and editorship of David Meyer. As of December 1, the organization, and Magicol with it, was transferred in! to the care of Magicana, a not-for-profit arts organization based in Toronto and dedicated to promoting magic as a performing art. David Ben serves as Magicana's Artistic Director.

    John Nicholls Booth, 1912 - 2009
In 1998, at the age of 86, Dr. John Booth wrote: "I tried as a magician, cinematographer, lecturer, and Unitarian clergyman to bring people together in a more just, enjoyable, and harmonious society." His Linking Ring column, "Memoirs of a Magician's Ghost" from 1963 to 2000, comprises nearly 1,700 pages of autobiography and a history of conjuring and the magical characters he had met over the years.

Ken Niinuma makes his worldwide publishing debut here in "Talk About Tricks." Japan's newest creative force, Niinuma has a rare knack for combining obscure principles with familiar card plots. The results are fresh takes on classics, like Triumph, Out of the This World, matching effec! ts, and more - something for everyone!

The Show Doctor (by Jeff McBride)
DEAR SHOW DOCTOR: Sometimes, people think they're funny by saying things like, "Hey, if you're a magician, walk up the wall like Criss Angel!" These types of jabs are really rude, but I never know what to say back and still seem like a nice guy. Do you have any sharp comebacks or pointed words for handling these awkward social situations? What kinds of effects do you do when someone on the street recognizes you and demands "Do a trick!" How do you gently refuse a person if you don't feel like doing magic or just don't have the time? - Magic Steve

    Classic Correspondence (by Mike Caveney)
The first round of "Classic Correspondence" lasted two years, followed by a two-year break. So this seems like a good time to begin another two-year cycle (24 articles) of classic letters from the files of Egyptian Hall Museum. Just the appearance of this letter qualifies it! as a perfect example of classic correspondence. Today, magicians think nothing of banging out a few emails and transmitting them into cyberspace. The equivalent in 1918 was to type a note onto a lavishly designed and beautifully printed piece of stationary that also advertised one's talent and boasted of one's success. This letter was sent to Carter the Great, who had just recently brought his full-evening show to Baldwin's home city of San Francisco.

    Directions (by Joanie Spina)
It's absolutely true: in watching other performers, we can see ourselves. We sometimes make the same mistakes or the same brilliant choices, but don't recognize them until we observe them in someone else. Through this series of articles, enhanced by the accompanying videos you can find at www.MAGICmagazine.com, you can learn from watching other performers as I gently point out ways that their material can be improved, as well as the aspects of their acts that are working well. ! Although they refer directly to the video in question, these points also carry over as general principles of performing. There are many right ways of doing things, and these are a few options.
